Place Weymouth Massachusetts year 1973..

In 1973,Edd and Ruth moved into this house with their baby son Christopher.Edd,just out of the Episcopal divinity school,was a part-time assistant in a parish in the village of Hanover for the summer. It was a hot summer that year,but they found that the stairway that split the house was always very cold.

One day,when Edd was out,Ruth happened to be standing at the top of the stairs,holding the baby in her arms. Suddenly she felt hands on her back,pushing her. With the baby in her arms she fell down the stairs,about 20 steps.As she was falling,she could feel a cold chill all around her,but from the baby she felt and saw a warm glow..

She was not hurt,and neither was the baby.She did not tell her husband at the time what had caused her to fall.

About a week later in the middle of the night,the baby,who slept in another room,woke up screaming,for no apparent reason.Ruth got up to go to him,and Edd awoke as she was leaving their room..

Edd recalls;"When i woke up i had what can only be described as the most tremendous feeling of fear and panic,for no apparent reason that i was aware of. I felt almost as though there were some evil presence that was there and it was holding me down,....almost,i guess,trying to possess me. As my wife was going through the corridor,she said that again she felt these same icy hands on her shoulders.Then she felt these icy hand begin to move around her neck as though the were trying to choke her..She ran to the baby's room,and picked him up,and again she felt the same warm glow. The baby calmed down almost immediately." The very next Morning Edd,performed an exorcism on the stairway.This was the first time he had ever done one..

He had done some lecturing about the church and the occult,but he had never done any kind of thing like this himself.. It was a simple form of exorcism,that is described by the Bishop of Exeter,Church of England,in a small book.

After the exorcism,their was a little bit of a chill in the stairway,but it didn't seem quite as strong,and they had no more UnEarthly occurrences after that. About a month later,the landlady mentioned to them,that the house had once been a barn and that a man had committed suicide by hanging himself from the rafter in the area that had become the stairway,when the building was converted in to a house.
